Workspace Member Roles
A workspace member holds one of two roles:
| Role | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Member | Uses the workspace: works in the projects they have been added to |
| Workspace Admin | Administers the workspace: invites users, changes member roles, and manages every member |
A Workspace Admin is not the same thing as a Project Admin. Workspace Admin is the broader scope — it applies across the whole workspace, while Project Admin applies to a single project. See Project Permissions for what happens inside a project.
Changing a member's role
Only a Workspace Admin can change a role.
- Open the workspace administration area and go to Users.
- Select the member whose role you want to change.
- Change the Role — for example from Member to Workspace Admin, or back.
- Save the change.
The new role applies from the member's next action.
On success, a notification is sent to both the affected member and the administrator who made the change, so neither party finds out by accident. See Notifications.
Notes
- A role change is checked on the server before it is applied. If the member's role was changed elsewhere in the meantime, the conflicting change is rejected rather than silently overwritten.
- Changing a workspace role does not change what the member can do inside an individual project. Project permissions are granted separately, per project.
- One account can belong to several workspaces, and can hold a different role in each. Check which workspace you are in before making administrative changes.
